MPPT – Maximum Power Point Tracking

MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) is a control algorithm used in inverters to constantly adjust voltage and current in order to operate PV modules at their optimal power point.

How it works

  • The inverter continuously monitors the I-V (current-voltage) curve

  • It finds the point where P = V × I is maximized

  • Conditions change with temperature, irradiance, and shading, requiring dynamic tracking

Importance

  • Ensures maximum energy harvest at all times

  • Critical in systems with:

    • Partial shading

    • Varying orientations

    • Long strings with voltage variation
